Kim Crayton ~ Her/She

When white folx ask me “what are the greatest barriers they must overcome in order to truly develop a consistent, DEMONSTRATED antiracist practice”, my response is ALWAYS some form of the following:

1. Y’all have to internalize that your presence AND/OR absence, in any situation, ignites systems, institutions, and policies ROOTED in white supremacy AND anti-Blackness on your behalf AND against “others”

2. Because of this, you are racist by DESIGN and must develop YOUR antiracist practice, not for “others”, but to regain your humanity which white supremacy has stripped from you; whiteness makes you the villain, and definitely not the hero/victim, in the LIVED EXPERIENCES of the majority; every attempt to embrace “white saviorism” perpetuates white supremacy

3. Learn to manage your feelings, which are an effective and efficient tool/strategy for inflicting harm/violence on “others”; decenter yourself and your demands for comfort; and shut the fuck up and listen more often because you’re not the experts you’ve been led to believe you are and amplifying “others” aids you in being less complicit in the harming of “others”

4. Amplify AND pay the “others” whose work you benefit from; stop appropriating their stories and being a parasite

@KimCrayton1 We white ppl take for granted a feeling of 'invisibility' in majority spaces & that's a privilege born of white supremacy. Walking into a non-white space carries with it presence & we need to see that about ourselves, take responsibility for it. It's not for anyone else to 'see' us in a way that makes us comfortable. Especially not if we don't grant others the same welcome. Non-white ppl in US never enjoy feeling 'invisible'. We need to acknowledge the daily labor that entails.
